The Wonder ‘CHIA’!

The Wonder ‘CHIA’!

How easily do we order online chia seeds just with a click! But it has taken ages for this little thing to survive and sustain through the blows of time.

In Mayan, “Chia” means ‘strength’. This one word is a complete description of the wonders chia seeds bring with them. The ancient warriors recognised the strength of these tiny seeds and harnessed its power ages ago. With little pouches of these seeds tied to their waists, warriors travelled for days. They would eat nothing but these superseeds.

The Mexican Tarahumara tribe is known for their runners. These runners consumed a drink of chia seeds, lemon and water called Iskiate. This drink gave them energy to run for hundreds of miles.

When Spanish invaders arrived to the lands of Mexico, these seeds were banned for their religious and ritual uses. These precious gems were lost in the sands of time.

Some books say that Mexicans, as tough as rock, preserved and grew these seeds in a hidden environment and the Spanish couldn’t erase its traces.

Thankfully, this act turned into a boon for the rest of the modern world and the use of Chia seeds resurfaced.

Around the 1980s, in the University of Arizona, a research professor, Dr. Wayne Coates, found that these seeds grow into green grass in a matter of hours which was astonishing. Hence he began his research on this wonder seed.

The world was changing. The non-vegetarians were turning into vegetarians and vegetarians were becoming vegan. This led to the hunt for plant proteins. Slowly and steadily this wonder seed was finally revealed in its full power. The world has now brought this little gem into the spotlight. Online Chia Seeds are available easily for those who wish to harness its power. Although there are quite few places where you’ll find the Organic Chia Seeds

Chia seeds have an amazing concentration of vital nutrients. They are loaded with antioxidants that fight free radicals and help us fight ageing. They contain a high amount of soluble fibre and hence they absorb 10-12 times their weight in water. This gives us a feeling of fullness. They contain an amazing amount of proteins.

They are high in Omega-3 fatty acids also.

They have amazing quantities of Calcium, Phosphorus and Magnesium which are awesome to keep your bones healthy.

They say that good things come in small packets and for this wonder seed it is true in all its form. I have a jar coming soon to my kitchen, and you?
